Upside of a Recession

I saw this post on CFO.com and wanted to comment on the theme:

The Upside of Recession? An economic downturn can be an opportunity for companies to innovate and correct bad habits, says Vijay Govindarajan, a professor at Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business.
As one who has had to take on the challenges of an economic downturn head on; I can relate to the "opportunity" to innovate. Part of me wants to laugh at that notion, but it's still very true.

In times when sales slow down a bit, it's easier to make strides in innovation that can be a fundamental building block for future growth.

As a technology partner for companies, I see this same conversation in my meetings with companies that we are working with. The wisest business people I work with know that a recession is a cycle for them and they need to make the most of it by creating new opportunities in new markets. They're positioning themselves for that next turn of the cycle by strengthening their abilities to scale their business on the other side.

The Web as a distribution platform can be a key enabler of these innovations. Despite the economic challenges that many businesses face, users of the Web will still grow. More users will buy technology and expect to use more applications via the Web at a lower cost than conventional software. It's expected.

I would like to challenge those out there to take an opportunistic approach to the downturn that you are facing. How can you use this to cut unnecessary programs and initiatives? How can you use it to refocus those resources on new markets and new customer acquisitions?  Does the Web as a distribution platform make sense? And do you need a partner to do that with?

The upside part of the recession. People will find ways to cope up with it and value lessons that they will learn with facing crisis. Like me, I know how to budget wow gold and save it instead of buying armors and stuffs that I know is not necessary.
